I’m so excited about 2012! Everyone seems to have so much optimism and I know there is much to do this year. Which brings me to one of my fine art projects of the new year.
Here’s my very first fine art maternity portrait. I took this portrait of my sister Karina who is expected to give birth to her first baby boy in just a couple of days. I took this portrait not at my studio but rather at her home so she would feel more comfortable. I think it was better for my approach to this subject and love the way this portrait turned out.
I did everything in camera and without any special filters. It looks like a japanese paper print and perfect for how simple I wanted it to be. Usually I’m worrying about critical focus in most of my shots but with this session I wanted to totally lose myself and be free from technical stuff so I could just go with my instinct. And it worked! It feels so great to create personal work like this and to create a new piece of art! Plus I wanted an element of mystery to this series where you as a viewer could come up to a conclusion of what you where seeing if I had said nothing to you about it. What do you think? Do you like it, too?
